Magic On the Runways: 3 of Our Favorite Creations For New York Fashion Week

Nick Arrojo applies Refinish Dry Shampoo BTS at DISCOUNT UNIVERSE

New York Fashion Week is where trends take off. Remember when we all accessorized with a choker, circa 2016-18? It started with Gigi Hadid walking for Tommy Hilfiger. Around the same time, 80s revival trends hit the catwalk, as Gucci’s textured hair and headband sent us running for the crimper with Guns & Roses ringing in our ears.

Collaborating with exciting young designers and established brands, ARROJO NYC has been involved with NYFW since 2005. This season, we are preparing for metallics and sequins, color and shine and we’ll be back with a full report after the shows.

Beforehand, here’s our guide to a runway-inspired look: Three of our favorite creations for New York Fashion Week, along with product picks and styling tips you can use to make the styles your own.

DISCOUNT UNIVERSE 2019 S/S NYFW. HAIR BY ARROJO NYC USING ARROJO PRODUCT

A model walks for DISCOUNT UNIVERSE at Spring Studios with hair by ARROJO NYC

Discount Universe’s expressive collection was one of 2019s most talked about. Their bejeweled and bedazzled designs were the perfect canvas for a variety of sleek wet looks reminiscent of the 90s.

Why Wear It: For a night out, sleek glossy hair makes a dramatic statement that pairs beautifully with a pretty dress and red lip.

Key Product: Use Defrizz Serum on mid-lengths and ends of the hair for the sleekest, shiniest styles.

Styling Tips: After product application, use a boar bristle paddle brush to blow-dry from roots to ends, creating smoothness and shine. Make a full fringe to add drama while drawing attention to your eyes and temples. Put the lengths into a low pony or bun to expose neck and clavicle.

AMNESIA 2019 S/S NYFW. HAIR BY ARROJO NYC USING ARROJO PRODUCT

We created this half updo with beachy waves for Amnesia, circa 2019

Amnesia combined classic silhouettes and graphic design for outfits with visual interest. We mirrored the concept with archetypal half-up, half-down ‘dos made distinctive with height through the front, lived-in texture, and tumbling waves.

Why Wear It: You create an illusion of lift for cheekbones and chin while enjoying the romantic pull of hair cascading down the neck and shoulders.

Key Product: Styling Whip is our does it all styler that provides volume and hold, softness and shine. It’s the best prep product for this look.

Styling Tips: Apply Styling Whip and blow-dry hair in hands, tossing around for natural volume. Afterwards, mist with protective thickening lotion and use a Curling Wand to make beachy waves down the sides. Use Refinish dry shampoo and light back-brushing to create a high front, swept back. Fix with pins. Finish with Primp Working Spray for hold and texture.

KATIE GALLAGHER 2010 F/W NYFW. HAIR BY ARROJO NYC USING ARROJO PRODUCT

This style helped to launch the dual texture trend. The juxtaposition of hair texture reflects the sheer leggings, tailored dresses, and satin, beaded, and leather jackets that combined to make this an ethereal and beautiful collection.

Why Wear It: Adding height, rough texture, and a matte surface gives the look an alternative feeling that is alluring, grungy, and tough.

Key Product: Refinish dry shampoo gives the hair height and volume with a cool matte finish.

Styling Tips: Apply Fiber to the fringe and wrap-dry with a paddle brush for a smooth surface. Liberally apply Refinish Dry Shampoo to dry hair and shake out for dusty texture with tons of volume. Style asymmetrically for an inviting short to long face frame.
