Lenny, what brought you to ARROJO?

When I decided to go to cosmetology school in NYC I did my research and ARROJO was the school that really got me excited about my new career path. I’m so happy I made the decision to come here.

How was your training program? What did you learn?

I’ve learned how to understand and execute shapes in haircutting. This was a big “Ah-ha!” moment for me, especially when I started to treat hair like sculpture.

What do you love about cutting hair, and being in the salon?

I love that you never stop learning when you’re cutting hair. There are always different perspectives and new techniques and that’s what keeps things interesting. I love all of the new people I get to meet while I’m in the salon. My co-workers also act as a constant source of support and inspiration. We learn and grow together.

Lenny’s perfectly executed classic long layers is a client favorite for its prettiness & wearability.

The salon-apprentice training program culminates with a hairdressing presentation to celebrate your work and show your direction as a stylist. Yours drew lots of acclaim and the images are superb. What was your inspiration?

The presentation is a great way to complete the program because you can show what you have learned. My inspiration was pretty simple: classic, minimalist, fresh, NYC summer. I wanted to use everything I had learned yet also makes the looks fun, and wearable, for the client.

What techniques, that you have learned over the course of your training, did you out to use in your presentation?

I used classic precision techniques for my haircuts. It’s the basis for haircutting. Having a good foundation for the classics allows you to branch out with confidence when doing creative and advanced techniques.

Men’s hair cutting is another vital skill for stylists & Lenny’s classic men’s square layer with side part & enhanced texture is the mark of a consummate professional.

How does it feel to now be a fully fledged stylist?

It’s the first big step in starting my career and I’m extremely happy and excited. I’ve always wanted this and it’s an incredible feeling to be part of such a great team, and to have so many opportunities in front of me.

What can clients expect from a service from you?

I love giving clients a new perspective on their hair. It could be showing a client how to style their cut, or how to embrace their natural hair texture, or giving them a completely new texture with an American Wave. There are so many options; I want to show my clients the possibilities, and I want them to always be happy and joyful when they walk out the door.

Styling is another essential art of the salon stylist & Lenny’s beautiful, elegant ponytail on the occipital bone is a great way to draw admiring glances up to the cheekbones and eyes – two of the most feminine facial features.

Even during your training, you accumulated a lot of credits. Can you  tell us about some of the things you have done outside the salon?

Yes, I have been lucky; ARROJO is so good at creating opportunities. Even in cosmetology school, I got to work on New York Fashion Week Shows. I was also able to style hair for the 24HourPlays series on Broadway, which was a great experience with fast changes and quick, inventive thinking essential. My other credits are for working with ARROJO at international trade shows, like ISSE Long Beach, ABS Chicago, and IBS NYC; and also being invited to present at Elevate Hair 2019. Now let’s see what the future holds!
